The Top Modern Westerns

There are a lot of people who don’t like western movies. I personally haven’t grown up in the southern part of the United States, but I think the western genre of filmmaking is one of the best out there. Even though I’m a fan of westerns, I totally understand that they aren’t films people typically get excited about. Most people don’t immediately use a cell phone lookup to find their friends and go to the movie theater when they hear about a new one. However, the good news is that modern westerns are getting easier and easier to dive into, if you aren’t into the “country” scene.

I’m always excited when a new “cowboy” movie comes out. Within the past ten years, there have been a lot of great ones. From 3:10 to Yuma, which came out in 2007, to the new True Grit with Jeff Bridges, to Open Range, modern westerns are becoming more popular. Today, it’s time to count down the best ones that have been released in the modern era.

The Best Modern Westerns

3:10 to Yuma

This one, starring Russell Crowe and Christian Bale, is one of my favorite movies of all-time. It was released in 2007, so it’s definitely a modern film. It’s action-packed from beginning to end, plus it’s the kind of movie that you have to watch again once you see it for the first time. You could also find a cell phone lookup service to help you look for a friend’s number, then ask them for their opinion on the movie.

Open Range

Open Range is not quite as new as 3:10 to Yuma, but it’s still a modern western and was released in 2003. It stars Robert Duvall and Kevin Costner, two actors who totally master the role of “cowboy” in this film.

True Grit

The original True Grit starred John Wayne, who obviously isn’t in the newer one. The first one was released in 1969, but the new one, which stars Jeff Bridges, was released in 2010. This film is actually based on a book, and it’s probably the most successful original/remake pair in the genre. In this movie, a young girl recruits a U.S. Marshall to help her hunt down the man who killed her father.

The Magnificent Seven

This is the newest western on this list, released back in 2016. It stars Chris Pratt and Denzel Washington, who come together in this film and have great chemistry. The Magnificent Seven also a remake of an older western movie.

Django: Unchained

Django is a great movie.

Some wouldn’t consider this movie to be a western. But Django: Unchained, directed by Quentin Tarantino, certainly feels like one. It stars Leonardo DiCaprio and Jamie Foxx, and is one of the most intense westerns you may ever see. But it’s also one of the best, especially when we’re talking about the modern ones.

Many westerns, albeit not all of them, could even be considered family movies. For parents whose kids are using smartphones, it’s important to make sure that they’re safe, no matter what they’re doing online. That’s why you should always do a cell phone lookup on any strange numbers you see on their phones. You need to be sure your child isn’t talking with strangers.
